The Truth About Eczema: Triggers, Solutions, and My Personal Healing Journey

Living with Eczema: What Helped Us Heal

If you're here, chances are you or someone you love is dealing with eczema. First of all—I see you. I know how draining, confusing, and frustrating it can be. Eczema isn't just "dry skin.” It's red, itchy, painful, and sometimes relentless. For us, it came out of nowhere and took over our lives.

I've been there. I remember watching my son scratch his skin until it bled. His cheeks, arms, and legs would flare up constantly, and I felt helpless. That's what pushed me to dive into research and completely change the way we approached skincare, food, and even our home environment.

I'm not a doctor—this isn't medical advice—but I want to share what worked for us in case it helps someone else walking this same path.

What Triggered My Son's Eczema

For us, it was never just one thing. Eczema is complicated. But once I started removing common irritants and supporting his skin and body in the right way, we saw a huge difference.

We switched to filtered water after I realized how harsh chlorine and other chemicals were on his skin. I installed a showerhead filter and even got a countertop water filter for drinking and washing produce.

We also ditched artificial fragrances, dyes, and harsh chemicals—in everything from our laundry detergent to the baby wipes and lotions we were using. I started reading labels like a detective and tossed anything with sulfates, parabens, or synthetic scents.

We made changes to our food, too. We went completely dairy-free for a while and cut back on processed foods and sugar. I focused on giving him whole, healing foods—things like bone broth, wild salmon, pasture raised eggs and meats, chia seeds, and lots of green smoothies. I added gut-friendly foods like sauerkraut (my son's face and eyes would scrunch up every time he ate sauerkraut—it was the cutest thing), kefir, and bananas to help support his digestion from the inside out.

I even paid attention to his clothes. I got rid of anything scratchy or synthetic and replaced it with breathable cotton, back then H&M had affordable cotton clothing, but his wardrobe was so boring with just limited color choices lol.

And just as important—I focused on managing stress, both his and mine. We started spending more time outside, grounding, slowing down, and practicing gratitude. It may sound small, but it really helped.

The Gut-Skin Connection

Something I didn't understand in the beginning was how connected the gut and skin really are. Once I learned about leaky gut and gut dysbiosis (an imbalance in the gut bacteria), it made so much sense. I believe this was a major root cause of his flare-ups.

That's why I focused on giving him probiotic-rich foods and avoiding inflammatory ones. I also supported his immune system naturally with whole foods and rest.

Skincare That Doesn’t Hurt Sensitive Skin

I couldn't find anything on the market that felt safe or gentle enough—so I made my own. I am talking back in 2013.

Our routine looked like this:

1. Cleanse gently
I made a Calendula & Aloe Soap that didn't strip his skin. It was soothing, non-drying, and made with ingredients like gentle oils and Shea butter that support the skin’s natural balance.

2. Lock in moisture
Right after bathing, while his skin was still damp, I applied my Eczema Skin Care Moisturizer. This was a game-changer. It's made with:

  • Grass-fed tallow, which is rich in nourishing fats and antioxidants. Tallow was not commonly used as a skin moisturizer back then.
  • Raw, organic and unrefined shea butter sourced directly from Ghana
  • Calendula oil to calm irritation. I love infusing my own oils.
  • A gentle blend of essential oils: Palmarosa, Lavender, Geranium, Cedarwood, Patchouli, and Coriander—chosen for their calming and healing properties

For those looking for a vegan option, I also make one with raw organic unrefined cocoa butter from Peru and mango butter from India. It's just as rich and soothing.

3. Relieve the itch
I created an Itch Stick using colloidal oatmeal for quick relief during sudden flare-ups. I kept it in my backpack at all times.

4. Extra support
During severe flare-ups, I used a Calendula Salve to calm and protect his skin while it healed.

The success of this collection sparked everything. From there, I got the confidence and started making skincare for myself as well and before I knew I was making over 20 products.

Small Changes, Big Results

If I had known about homeopathy back then, I would've absolutely explored it alongside everything else. Now that I’ve studied it more deeply, I can confidently say there are powerful remedies that support eczema and the underlying imbalances that cause it.

So, parents or even if you have eczema—if you're in my shoes-I've got you covered when it comes to skincare. But your commitment to uncovering the root cause is just as important. Whether that means looking into gut health, environmental triggers, or working with a trusted holistic practitioner, your dedication matters more than any single product.

None of these changes were overnight miracles—but a total lifestyle change was worth it.

If you're dealing with eczema, know this: you're not alone, and there is hope. I created the Eczema Skin Care Collection because I couldn't find anything I felt safe using on my own child. Every product is handcrafted with love, using only clean, nourishing ingredients.

I hope our story inspires you to look at eczema differently—not as something to cover up, but as a signal from your body that it needs gentle care and attention.

You've got this. And I'm here cheering you on every step of the way.
